If you find yourself starting to loop over the same section, you must resist the temptation to reread over and over again. That section might only be relevant to a single question – or no questions at all. If you spend a lot of time on it, you’re likely to end up rushing later in the section and losing easy points. As you work through the questions, you should be doing something – anything – to work toward the answers at all times. If you’re so confused that you can’t even figure out how to start working through a question, leave it and move on. You won’t get the answer by sitting and staring. Very rarely do high scorers have time problems because they’re spending too much time on every question. More often it’s a couple of questions that drain all their time. If you’re spot-on everywhere else, you can afford to guess on a question or two; you cannot afford to rush and get two or three questions wrong per set. Figure out where your weak spots are, and learn to work around them.   As a general rule, you should spend the minimum amount of time possible on easy questions while still working carefully enough not to make any careless errors. Your goal is to leave yourself as much time as possible to work through the hardest questions.   3) Do not EVER eliminate an answer because it confuses you I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. Do not – I repeat, do not – rely on your memory. 5) Read before/after the line references A line reference tells you where a particular word or phrase is located – it does not tell you where the answer is. The answers could be in the lines cited, or it could be before/after. If you’ve understood the question and the section of the passage referenced, and still can’t find the answer, there’s a good chance you’re looking in the wrong spot. If you’re dealing with a function/purpose question, there’s about a 50% chance the answer won’t be in the exact lines cited, but regardless of the question type, do not ever start or stop reading in the middle of a sentence. Likewise, if you’re asked about something close the beginning/end of a paragraph, back up or read forward as necessary. Main ideas are usually at the beginnings/ends of paragraphs – when in doubt, focus on them. 6) Answer questions in your own words If you’re a strong reader, spot an answer immediately, and are 100% certain it’s right, it’s fine to pick it and move on. When things are less clear-cut, however, it would strongly behoove you to get a general idea of what information the correct answer will contain, keeping in mind that it might be phrased in a very different way from the way you’d say it. Even doing something as simple as playing positive/negative can make the right answer virtually pop out at you. To reiterate: you cannot rely on the answers already there 100% of the time. They are there to sound plausible, even if theyre no such thing. Defend yourself. 7) Practice keeping calm when you don’t know the answer right away If you stand a serious chance of scoring an 800, there’s a good chance that you’re pretty good at recognizing correct answers. There’s also a pretty good chance that most of the questions you’re getting wrong are the ones you aren’t sure about in the first place. When this is the case, one of the biggest challenges tends to involve managing your reactions when you encounter questions you aren’t sure about right away. This might only happen three or four times throughout the test, but that’s enough to cost you. From what I’ve observed, many students who fall into this category have a tendency to freeze, then panic, then guess. Learning to keep calm is a process; you have to practice it when you’re studying in order for the there to be any chance of your doing it during the actual test. Stop, take a moment, re-read the question calmly, and make sure you’re crystal clear on what it’s asking. Once, you’ve fully processed what you’re being asked, you can probably get rid of an answer or two. As you work through the question, you might find yourself getting a clearer idea of what it’s asking for. If you don’t, pick one specific aspect of each remaining answer to check against the passage. If you’re stuck between a general and a specific answer, start with the more specific one. When you go back to the passage, pay attention to strong language and major transitions and â€Å"interesting† punctuation (however, therefore, but, colons, questions marks) since key information tends to be located right around them. If you’re unsure about what you’re looking for, focusing on these elements can make you suddenly notice things you missed the first time around. 8) Be willing to reconsider your original assumption Sometimes you’ll understand a question, answer it in your own words, look at the answer choices†¦ and find absolutely nothing that fits. If you’ve understood the question and the answers and can’t connect one to the other, the answer must be coming from an angle you haven’t considered. You might need to read more literally, or you might have to consider an alternate meaning of a word. Embrace that fact, because fighting the test won’t change it. 10) Remember that the SAT can break its own â€Å"rules† It’s undoubtedly a good idea to know some of the more common patterns of the test, e.g. extreme answers are usually wrong. If you’re seriously shooting for an 800, though, you must be willing to consider that on very rare occasions, there are exceptions. I earnestly considered the case study from the Harvard Business Review as to how the business should be developed in relation to the tax related problems. The analysis of a charitable organisation helped me to understand a product marketing from the zero level. Week 6 explains to me about the value chain and its purpose as essential criteria of a trade. It even explains why Porters value chain has become useless these days. Week 7 focuses on the organisational design, which has been quite helpful to me in my endeavour. I was looking for a perfect plan to design a proper business. It explains to me properly as to why the organisational design is exclusively important for business. In the case study, the GCM is a car manufacturer, which has gotten immense success but it could not become an international business only due to the lack of integration(Breitsohl Khammash, 2010). The business innovation is mainly created by enhancing the strengths, which I have learnt particularly in Week 8 of the course. Creation of value for my business is also important, which I have learnt in Week 5 and Week 6. The Porters five forces should be utilised to create a complete value for the entire business. The analysis of organisational design comes with the help of Ansoff matrix learnt during the Week 8 of the course. The potential barriers and social support in the path of behavior change will be explained at length in the course of this report. An account of my experience has been elaborated in detail and its relation with the transtheoretical model has been provided in this report. Discussion Problem Drinking a large amount of coffee can have a detrimental effect on ones health. They may experience a surge in blood pressure and people who suffer from hypertension should limit their intake of coffee to one cup in a day (Quionez et al.2016). It is a cause of indigestion and headaches. Drinking three large cup of coffee in a day can wreak havoc in the health of an individual and one should consume 1 small cup of coffee in a day. I will develop a short term behavior goal which will enable me to reduce my weekly intake from three large cups to one small cup. With the help of rewards and support from friends and family I will endeavour to get rid of this bad habit until I am satisfied with one small cup of coffee. Plan, goal and enabler of the 2nd week Coffee withdrawal should be in stages otherwise one will suffer from headaches and nausea. This is the first stage in the transtheoretical model where people acquire knowledge about the healthy behavior. They start thinking about the positive results that can be attained after they would change their behavior (Pomm et al.2015). At this stage, people learn more from those people who adopt a healthy mode of life and they contemplate on what kind of a person they will grow to be after they have got rid of their bad habit. In this stage, I will add water to the coffee so that I will get lower quantity of coffee giving my body ample time to adjust myself to the reduced intake. There are many energy drinks that contain caffeine so I will look for those drinks as an alternative which I will consume in order to supplement the intake of coffee. Due to constant efforts, my daily intake has been reduced from three cups to two and a half cups in a day. Advertisements on tv and social media act a s a barrier so staying away from those advertisements will help me in achieving my target. Support from family who will change any advertisement on coffee while it is being played out on tv may help me to overcome the trigger of my urge for coffee. Plan, goal and enabler of the 3rd week My daily intake has been reduced to two and a half cup cup after repeated efforts. My next short term aim will be to further reduce the intake to two cups. At this stage, people are ready to make the particular healthy behavior an integral part of their life. They inform their near and dear ones about their resolve to bring a change in their behavior. Sleep disruption proved to be a hindrance in my 3rd week due to reduction in intake of coffee (Krankl and Gitlin 2015). Active support from my friends helped me to get over my urge for coffee. There is an intrinsic relationship between smoking and consumption of coffee and so less amount of smoking can help in reducing the intake of coffee. Plan, goal and enabler of the 4th week My short-term aim in my 4th week will be reduce the consumption of coffee to one and a half large cup. At this stage, people have to work very hard so that they can go ahead with their plan. People will learn to bolster their decision to change their behavior and they have to fight against desires to go back to their unhealthy way of life (Singh, Mller and Vicknasingam 2014). I will try to replace my intake of coffee to that of tea. Herbal tea especially green tea have great boons and one can replace coffee by tea which will provide long term benefits. Trying something new like tea can really help. The coffee withdrawal effect resulted in headache that created a barrier for me. Plan, goal and enabler of the 5th week My aim in this week would be to reduce my intake of coffee to one cup. In this stage, people become extremely aware of those particular situations that can entice them into going back to their unhealthy way of life. At this stage, people should have conversation with people who they can trust. An avid drinker of coffee will experience severe repercussions when deprived from his daily dosage of coffee (Setiawan et al.2015). It can have a very debilitating effect on those people who are addicted to it. I will start feeling lethargic and felt unmotivated. Productivity was brought down to largely owing to lack in energy factor as a resultant of the reduced intake. Plan, goal and enabler of the 6th week My aim in this week would be to reduce my intake to one small cup of coffee or half a large cup of coffee and achieve my final goal. In this final stage, people face a high risk of going back to the old unhealthy mode of life (Grosso et al. 2016). Extensive support from a physician and a coach may help to motivate the person. In this final stage, I have planned to switch over to decaffeinated soda to get over my pangs of coffee consumption. I will supplement it by fruit juice that is healthy and would not have any bad impact on my physical health. As a barrier, I will experience muscle pain and stiffness. While carrying out my exercise regimen, I will feel as if my muscles have huge amount of weight attached to them thus making things difficult for me. Reflection In the second week, people gain knowledge about the health behavior that they want to change. Other drinks that contain caffeine can act as an alternative drink. In the 3rd week, people need support from near ones so that they are motivated to leave their bad health behavior. Reducing smoking can help me to get over my health behavior. In the 4th week, coffee can be replaced by tea especially herbal tea that would help me to get over my bad habit. With the help of constant efforts, my daily intake of coffee can be reduced to one and a half cup. Headache may be experienced as a coffee withdrawal symptom. People may feel extremely lethargic in the 5th week and productivity will be brought down to a great extent. (Pomm et al.2015). Support from friends can be of great help because people have a tendency to relapse at this stage. In the 6th stage, one can switch over to fruit juice which is a healthy habit. Muscle stiffness may be experienced at this stage. With the help of strong determ ination and co-operation from near ones, bad health behavior can be curbed to a great extent. Rewards I will enjoy a dinner at my famous restaurant as a reward if I am able to achieve my goal in the second week. In my third week I can become a member of a comedy club in my locality and enjoy a good laughing session. I can plan to go to a concert with my friends that I have derailed for a long time during my fourth week as a reward. I can opt for a photography class that will take my mind away from coffee from some time and provide me a change. It will ease my nerves in my fifth week and help me in getting over my withdrawal symptoms (Schmit et al. 2016). As a reward, I will pamper myself in a luxury spa that will relieve my pangs for coffee and divert my mind away from it in my final week. In the second week, I will add water to coffee to get rid of the obsession for coffee. One experiences tiredness and listening to songs may help in this regard. The help that the sealant woman promised is on their way to the fringes. The plot is greatly influenced, David learns more things as the time goes on. He discovers who is the Spiderman(Gordon) and where is Sophie. He meets them and learn what it is like to live in the fringes. When the sealant woman rescues David, Rosalind and Petra they are brought to a big, developed city like the one in David's dreams. Because of the telepathy David discovers that such a city really exists but most of all through Petra they establish contact with a more civilized people than they are. Because of the conflicts in the story it leads the main characters to discover the sealant city. Telepathy not only affects the plot of the story but also the main characters in the novel. The most obvious thing is that David, Rosalind and Petra are saved. They have a chance to learn, experience new things they never saw or heard before. Mike and Rachel stays behind but hopes to come to the big city were things are different. Some characters died in the final chapter when the helicopter makes a landing killing everything that moves around it. The characters that died where: the spiderman (Gordon), David's father, Sophie and all the people from the fringes and Waknuk that where near the helicopter. Waknuk might be affected by the discovery of the sealant city because the reader finds out (in the final chapter) that the sealant city is very developed and people are better educated. They are also civilized and understand that Waknuk is a village cut off from the surroundings because of the radiation. If Waknuk will be helped as predicted it may become a big, civilized city like Zealand. The natives in Waknuk will stop thinking that Tribulation was sent by God and that all deviations are devil's creation. They might understand that the radiation might be the remaining of a nuclear bomb or nuclear war. The sealant people might help Waknuk in education and they themselves may build the machines like today's, and grow more productive crops. The entire thinking and appearance of Waknuk might change. On the other hand when the radiation will go away after a while the sealant people might go deeper and deeper into the surrounding land. Waknuk might be taken over by other cities because it could not and/or would not know how to compete with the cities. This also might depend on how are the Zealand people like. If they are so understanding and educated they will probably help Waknuk to develop, but if the people won't help then the `negative point' could be true. Many things can affect the plot of a story, the characters or the surroundings in a story. In this novel these three points were influenced by mental telepathy. This type of story could be an example how people were in the past (in the really world). It is an idea what could really happen if a nuclear war would become a reality.

The Legend of El Dorado

The Legend of El Dorado El Dorado was a mythical city supposedly located somewhere in the unexplored interior of South America. It was said to be unimaginably rich, with fanciful tales told of gold-paved streets, golden temples and rich mines of gold and silver. Between 1530 and 1650 or so, thousands of Europeans searched the jungles, plains, mountains, and rivers of South America for El Dorado, many of them losing their lives in the process. El Dorado never existed except in the fevered imaginations of these seekers, so it was never found. Aztec and Inca Gold The El Dorado myth had its roots in the vast fortunes discovered in Mexico and Peru. In 1519, Hernn Cortes captured Emperor Montezuma and sacked the mighty Aztec Empire, making off with thousands of pounds of gold and silver and making rich men of the conquistadors who were with him. In 1533, Francisco Pizarro discovered the Inca Empire in the Andes of South America. Taking a page from Cortes book, Pizarro captured the Inca Emperor Atahualpa and held him for ransom, earning another fortune in the process. Lesser New World cultures such as the Maya in Central America and the Muisca in present-day Colombia yielded smaller (but still significant) treasures. Would-Be Conquistadors Tales of these fortunes made the rounds in Europe and soon thousands of adventurers from all over Europe were making their way to the New World, hoping to be part of the next expedition. Most (but not all) of them were Spanish. These adventurers had little or no personal fortune but great ambition: most had some experience fighting in Europes many wars. They were violent, ruthless men who had nothing to lose: they would get rich on New World gold or die trying. Soon the ports were flooded with these would-be conquistadors, who would form into large expeditions and set off into the unknown interior of South America, often following the vaguest rumors of gold. The Birth of El Dorado There was a grain of truth in the El Dorado myth. The Muisca people of Cundinamarca (present-day Colombia) had a tradition: kings would coat themselves in a sticky sap before covering themselves in gold powder. The king would then take a canoe to the center of Lake Guatavit and, before the eyes of thousands of his subjects watching from shore, would leap into the lake, emerging clean. Then, a great festival would begin. This tradition had been neglected by the Muisca by the time of their discovery by the Spanish in 1537, but not before word of it had reached the greedy ears of the European intruders in cities all over the continent. El Dorado, in fact, is Spanish for the gilded one: the term at first referred to an individual, the king who covered himself in gold. According to some sources, the man who coined this phrase was conquistador Sebastin de Benalczar. Evolution of the Myth After the Cundinamarca plateau was conquered, the Spanish dredged Lake Guatavit in search of the gold of El Dorado. Some gold was indeed found, but not as much as the Spanish had hoped for. Therefore, they reasoned optimistically, the Muisca must not be the true kingdom of El Dorado and it must still be out there somewhere. Expeditions, composed of recent arrivals from Europe as well as veterans of the conquest, set out in all directions to search for it. The legend grew as illiterate conquistadors passed the legend by word of mouth from one to another: El Dorado was not merely one king, but a rich city made of gold, with enough wealth for a thousand men to become rich forever. The Quest Between 1530 and 1650 or so, thousands of men made dozens of forays into the unmapped interior of South America. A typical expedition went something like this. In a Spanish coastal town on the South American mainland, such as Santa Marta or Coro, a charismatic, influential individual would announce an expedition. Anywhere from one hundred to seven hundred Europeans, mostly Spaniards would sign up, bringing their own armor, weapons, and horses (if you had a horse you got a larger share of the treasure). The expedition would force natives along to carry the heavier gear, and some of the better-planned ones would bring livestock (usually hogs) to slaughter and eat along the way. Fighting dogs were always brought along, as they were useful when fighting bellicose natives. The leaders would often borrow heavily to purchase supplies. After a couple of months, they were ready to go. The expedition would head off, seemingly in any direction. They would stay out for any length of time from a couple of months to as long as four years, searching plains, mountains, rivers, and jungles. They would meet natives along the way: these they would either torture or ply with gifts to get information about where they could find gold. Almost invariably, the natives pointed in some direction and said some variation of our neighbors in that direction have the gold you seek. The natives had quickly learned that the best way to be rid of these rude, violent men was to tell them what they wanted to hear and send them on their way. Meanwhile, illnesses, desertion, and native attacks would whittle down the expedition. Nevertheless, the expeditions proved surprisingly resilient, braving mosquito-infested swamps, hordes of angry natives, blazing heat on the plains, flooded rivers, and frosty mountain passes. Eventually, when their numbers got too low (or when the leader died) the expedition would give up and return home. The Seekers of This Lost City of Gold Over the years, many men searched South America for the legendary lost city of gold. At best, they were impromptu explorers, who treated the natives they encountered relatively fairly and helped map the unknown interior of South America. At worst, they were greedy, obsessed butchers who tortured their way through native populations, killing thousands in their fruitless quest. Here are some of the more distinguished seekers of El Dorado: Gonzalo Pizarro and  Francisco de Orellana: In 1541,  Gonzalo Pizarro, brother of Francisco Pizarro, led an expedition east from Quito. After a few months, he sent his lieutenant Francisco de Orellana in search of supplies: Orellana and his men  instead found the Amazon River, which they followed to the Atlantic Ocean.Gonzalo Jimà ©nez de Quesada: Quesada set out from Santa Marta with 700 men in 1536: in early 1537 they reached the Cundinamarca plateau, home of the Muisca people, which they swiftly conquered. Quesadas expedition was the one that actually found  El Dorado, although the greedy conquistadors at the time refused to admit that the mediocre takings from the Muisca were the fulfillment of the legend and they kept looking.Ambrosius Ehinger: Ehinger was a German: at the time, part of Venezuela was administered by Germans. He set out in 1529 and again in 1531 and led two of the cruelest expeditions: his men tortured natives and sacked their villages relentlessly. He w as killed by natives in 1533 and his men went home. Lope de Aguirre: Aguirre was a soldier on Pedro de Ursà ºas 1559 expedition which set out from Peru. Aguirre, a paranoid psychotic, soon turned the men against Ursà ºa, who was murdered. Aguirre eventually took over the expedition and began a reign of terror, ordering the murder of many of the original explorers and capturing and terrorizing the Island of Margarita. He was killed by Spanish soldiers.Sir Walter Raleigh: this legendary Elizabethan courtier is remembered as the man who introduced potatoes and tobacco to Europe and for his sponsorship of the doomed Roanoke  colony in Virginia. But he also was a seeker of El Dorado: he thought it was in the highlands of Guyana and made two trips there:  one in 1595  and a second in 1617. After the failure of  the second expedition, Raleigh was executed in England. Was It Ever Found? So,  was El Dorado ever found? Sort of. The  conquistadors  followed tales of El Dorado to  Cundinamarca  but refused to believe that they had found the mythical city, so they kept looking. The Spanish didnt know it, but the Muisca civilization was the last major native culture with any wealth. The El Dorado they searched for after 1537 did not exist. Still, they searched and searched: dozens of expeditions containing thousands of men scoured South America until about  1800 when  Alexander Von Humboldt  visited South America and concluded that El Dorado had been a myth all along. Nowadays, you can find El Dorado on a map, although its not the one the Spanish were looking for. There are towns named El Dorado in several countries, including Venezuela,  Mexico, and Canada. In the USA there are no fewer than thirteen towns named El Dorado (or Eldorado).  Finding El Dorado  is easier than ever†¦just dont expect streets paved with gold. The El Dorado legend has proven resilient. The notion of a lost city of gold and the desperate men who search for it is just too romantic for writers and artists to resist. Countless songs, stories  books, and poems (including one by  Edgar Allen Poe) have been written about the subject. There is even a superhero called El Dorado.  Moviemakers, in particular, have been fascinated by the legend: as recently as 2010 a movie was made about a modern-day scholar who finds clues to the lost city of El Dorado: action and shootouts ensue.
